EDIT 10/4/2013: Added a new picture to better show the drawing.

FINISHED 9/9: YES. YES. YES. I DID IT. I'm really happy with it :) I almost killed myself when I screwed up the last "N" in the RENOWN on the hood, but I fixed it with a white gel pen. Other than that it was smooth sailing :)

This is my Mazda 787B drawing.

I don't think this car needs introduction, but just in case, it's a four-rotor Wankel-engine powered beast that won the 24 Hours of Le Mans in 1991 (and remains the only Japanese car to ever win). 5 exist in the entire world (not counting four replicas given to various auto and racing museums). It sounds like heaven www.youtube.com/watch?v=81zhOQ… , and it's manufactured from pure awesome. :D

I tried a different approach to put down the lines this time; instead of using a ruler to measure out distances, I used a grid both on the reference photo (ref photo here if you're curious cache.gawker.com/assets/images… ), and on the paper that I'm drawing on (the grid was suggested by Laggtastic, who has basically become my car drawing mentor :D). It has worked GREAT, I love using the grid, it's much easier than trying to measure and makes it so much more accurate!

However, if I EVER draw another car with this much detailed lettering again, I want someone from the DA community to SLAP ME. I must be INSANE to try to draw such a detailed paint job.

Anyway, to be serious, you should check out Laggtastic - his stuff is awesome (I would kill to draw cars like he does), and he's seriously helped me a TON, not only this grid technique, but with a bunch of other stuff, too. So go look at his stuff already! :)

Thanks for looking!
